SelectaDNA - Some questions answered

Email response from SelectaDNA (NZ) Ltd to my query regarding the newly advertised SelectaDNA product.

Hi Hayden,

The SelectaDNA solution will last for up to a year as long as it is kept out of direct sunlight, and that the bottle top is screwed back on firmly. As it is glue based, if it is subjected to long periods being open, it will harden. The solution itself is white in colour – I liken it to PVA glue. It goes on cloudy but dries clear. There are microdots within this solution that look like glitter. They will be visable on light coloured surfaces – for this reason we recommend that they are put on the bottom or back of the article to be marked.

I’ve attached a picture of the property marking kit and it’s contents so that you can see what it looks like. These will be uploaded into our website along with other imagery in due course.

If you need any further information please don’t hesitate to contact myself on the numbers provided.

Best regards

Alice

Hi Hayden,

Hmmm, sounds like a con to me as ask any forensic scientist and they'll tell you that DNA fades after a couple of weeks in sunlight.

Obviously, this makes the Selectadna system useless on my bike, car, Ipod, phone, rings etc. Do they mention that?! Don't think so!

Also, my husband works as an insurance surveyor and conducted research on these DNA products. He discovered that DNA scientits wash their lab benchs every morning with a mild solution of bleach to prevent cross-contamination. How long will it take for criminals to get to know this.

If Selectadna knew of these weaknesses and failed to tell anybody, would it be fraud?

Please feel free to ask 'Alice' to answer these points directly as it would be useful to have something in writing from Selectadna that refutes these allegations.

Best of luck!

Email response from BNZ contact centre regarding my enquires into the sale of SelectaDNA in their branches.

Dear Mr Tennant

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Select DNA product

AS we are still in the early stages of the product and supply and of which stores will be available in the Pilot and which stores will be able to sell kits to customers, please keep an eye on our BNZ website, full media releases of products and services are always available and what to do, how to do.

What I can tell you is that each domestic kit contains a 30ml bottle of solution, one foam applicator, a UV light and a set of bright branded stickers to be strategically placed in windows and on the marked property to let criminals know that items in the house are marked with SelectaDNA. Domestic kits will be able to mark 50-100 items

This is where to go Mr Tennant - keep a close eye on here.

Mr Tennant, if you have any questions, or if I can help further, please reply to this message or contact us on the details listed below.

Thank you for contacting BNZ.

Kind regards
